I'd Love To Be A Stylist, But...

When I meet people and tell them I'm a stylist, more often than not I get the response, "I'd love to be a stylist, but...". The most common 'buts' are, I'm too old to start a new career, I live in a small town, I can't afford to quit my day job to start my own business, and I don't have time to go to school and get trained. It's very apparent that while being a stylist seems to be a dream for many, people are holding themselves back from following their dreams for all the wrong reasons.

So, you think you're too old? Whether you dream of being a stylist or something else, I'm here to tell you that you are never too old to follow those dreams! I was well into my thirties when I started my styling business and there are many successful stylists that have found their true passion much later in life. If you have a dream then age is nothing but a number!

So, you live in a small town? Unless you're the only person living in your town then geography is not a reason to follow your dreams. While personal styling used to be just for the rich and famous living in large cities, the growth of the industry has made it much more accessible to everyone, and the demand is increasing. Obviously living in a small town means that you'll have to think carefully about your niche, but there are customers everywhere and you just need to figure out how to reach them. Also with the development of technology and the current pandemic, virtual styling services are booming and you can be a stylist in small-town USA, but work with clients all over the world. If this is the reason that's holding you back you can also check out our blog post that will show you it's possible to be a successful stylist in a small town.

So, you can't afford to quit your day job? The good news is you don't have to! The great thing about being a stylist and having your own business is that you can choose when to work and when not to work. This means that in the early days of your business, as you're building up your client list, you can continue to work your day job. Once you're established and have a great client list then you can think about focusing on the business full-time. If you want to know how to build your business while still working your 9-5 then this blog post can help you.

So, It's not the right time? I'm too busy right now, I'll just wait until I'm done with XYZ, then I'll do it! Sound familiar? I've been guilty of this so many times in my life, waiting for the perfect time to start something new. But what I've learned the hard way is that there really is no such thing as the perfect time. There are always going to be things in life that need your attention and if you keep waiting for a time that you can focus 100% of your attention on it, you'll never do it. So instead of waiting for that 'perfect' time, make right now the perfect time and take a small step towards your goal of becoming a Stylist.

So, you don't have time to train? Life can get very busy and it can be hard to find the time to go to school and pursue education and training, and that's why I developed my online training academy to help people just like you! You don't have to physically sit in a classroom to train as a stylist and you can achieve the training and certification you need online and at a pace that suits you. The amount of time you commit to learning and the speed at which you want to become certified is completely up to you.

I'm sure there may be other reasons that are holding you back from following your dreams and becoming a stylist, but I truly believe that if you can dream it, you can do it! Why do I believe this? It's simple really! All the excuses you see above are excuses I used myself in the past. I held myself back for quite some time, but when I finally decided to follow my dreams it was the best move I ever made! And I highly recommend you do it too!

Happy Styling!
