Key Trends for Fall/Winter 2019/20

Updated: Sep 13, 2019

With Fall just around the corner, it's time to start planning your client's new wardrobes to get ready for the change in weather. I must admit, while I love the heat of the summer, Fall has to be my favorite season, especially when it comes to clothes. Cozy sweaters, scarves, and boots, all in a rich, warm color palette, you can't beat it. So what can we expect to see on the high street for the new season? We'll be seeing some old favorites staying around like animal print but there's definitely some new trends you're clients may want to consider.

Capes - Capes are the must-have outerwear for 2019/20. You'll find caped trench coats for the transitional season, as well as wool and puffa versions for the colder months.

Leather on Leather - It's time to say goodbye to double denim and say hello to leather on leather. Leather skirts and pants will be paired with leather shirts and jackets. And for those preferring more animal-friendly fashion, faux options will be available in most high-street stores.

Plaid - While animal prints are still going to be a must-have once again this season, there's a new print on the block, and that's plaid. It will be a key staple for most wardrobes this season and we'll be seeing the Fashionista's mixing plaid and plaid. While you're clients may not be ready for head-to-toe plaid a must-have item will be a plaid blazer.

Power Suits - Power suits continue to be a key trend this season, but they'll be styled with wide belts to cinch in those waistlines, and we'll see bold, padded shoulders. Think Melanie Griffith in working girl and you'll be heading in the right direction.

Asymmetric necklines - The Bardot and cold-shoulder tops are making room this season for asymmetric necklines. We'll be seeing this trend for shirts, tops, and for dresses.

Floral - We've seen a lot of floral this summer and it's set to continue into the fall/winter season.  Instead of the bright and pastels of summer they transition into fall colors with deep reds and browns.

Midi length - Once again, the midi is the go-to length we'll be seeing for skirts and dresses. One of my must-have items for this season is the leather midi skirt, and I'll be buying one in every color.  😊

Boots - Say goodbye to the sneaker trend of the summer, boots are leading the way for Fall/Winter. Specifically knee-high, combat, metallic, animal print, and chunky Chelsea boots.

Oversized Bags - When I say oversized, I mean huge! Big bags are back!

Long earrings - When I say long, I mean really.... long! We'll see earrings that reach beyond shoulder-length, both in delicate metals and the more flamboyant tassels and gems.

Happy Styling!
